A Time To Keep Warm!

There is a time for everything and a season for every activity, including running in temperatures that would freeze a polar bear's tail. Fortunately, we don't have tails, but ears and fingers can suffer from frostbite if not protected. Never take a chance in severely cold weather since it's easy to remove hats, gloves, mittens and headbands, but frostbite is forever!

We are open Wednesday, 10:00 - 6:00 and Thursday, 10:00 - 2:00. Stop by for a cookie, an orange, some Christmas candy or to get your last minute shopping done! Happy Holidays from Ghisallo Running!

A WARM thanks to all the runners who did not let a little snow and cold weather keep them from turning out for the Second Annual Reindeer run this morning! It is always so much fun to see all our friends and meet new ones! The costumed runners added to the festivities! Reindeer Run Packet Pickup Begins Monday, Dec. 14th

Packet pick up for the Second Annual Reindeer Run begins Monday, Dec. 14th at the store. You can also register for the race, which is Saturday, Dec. 19th at Tower Grove Park. On line registration information and a race application is found to the right, in our sidebar.

A NEW WORLD RECORD!!! Liam and Zac Freudenburg crossed the finish line at the Tulsa Route 66 Marathon today in world record time of 2:32:09, shattering the old world record (set by Mike Wardian and his son) of 2:42:21. Not satisfied with setting the new marathon world record for pushing a baby stroller, Zac also happened to finish in FIRST place. Mike Wardian and his son Grant were second overall, with a time of 2:34:37. Zac's training partner, John Aerni-Flessner, was third overall, with a time of 2:37:19. Congratulations to all the runners, and to Liam and Grant!

The Ghisallo Racing and the 180 Team had a great showing at the Half Marathon. Colleen Casey won the Women's Division in 1:24:23, Sean Birren, Mike Aitken, Bryan Sherwood and James Marino finished in the top 15 and Arnold Wilson and Nick Kannady had a great race! Congratulations to all!

It's official! Opening ceremonies for the eastern half of the 1-64 Reconstruction will be Sunday, Dec. 6th. As they did with the opening of the Western Half, the St. Louis Track Club will be hosting a 5k run on the newly completed section of the highway. Craig Alexander, Newton Sponsored Athlete, wins again in Hawaii!!

Congratulations to Craig Alexander, winner of this year's Hawaii Ironman. Craig in only the fourth person to win the Ironman two years in a row. Not only has Craig won the last two World Championships wearing the Newton Stability Racer, but he is one of the most pleasant and humble athletes we have ever met. In August we had the chance to meet and talk with him in Boulder during a Newton Running event and there was no top athlete less in awe of himself than Craig. He spoke to us of running in Austalia, where he spends half of the year, cycling through the mountains of Colorado, where he spends the other half, and swimming in a masters in Boulder, all part of the training he does forty hours each week, day-in and day-out. He balances out his life with his wife and two children, which take up all his non-training hours!

Team Ghisallo was out in force this morning at the Wood River Triathlon. A little HEAT and HUMIDITY did not seem to slow them down! Filling in 5 of the top 10 spots were Shawn O'Neal (1), John Aerni-Flessner (2), Zac Freudenburg (3) Doug Pohlman (7) and Bob Patterson (9). John and Zac then cheered on both their spouses, Lauren and Wieke, as they finished up their races. Congratulations!

Second Annual St. Michael's Day 5K Dash is Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009. Registration for the race, which takes place in Kirkwood, MO is now open. Information as to how to register and details on the race can be found by clicking here. Last year's inaugural race drew over 800 participants and raised over $20,000 for the Kirkwood Five and Backstoppers, Inc. This year's race is in honor of Maplewood Firefighter Ryan Hummert and University City Police Sergeant Mike King, who both lost their lives last year in the line of duty. All proceeds benefit Backstoppers, Inc., an organization providing financial assistance to the families of fallen police officers and firefighters. Ghisallo Running is proud to be a sponsor again this year of the St. Michael's Day Dash!

It's that time again, the Ghisallo Running Scorcher Four is Saturday, Aug. 15th, 2009. The race, which winds through the lovely streets of University City, begins and ends at Ghisallo Running. Congratulations to the 180 Energy/Ghisallo Running Team!!

Zac does it again, but this time, he had his son Liam along for the ride!! Congratulations to Zac AND Liam, who together (but with Dad doing all the pushing of the BOB Stroller) WON the U City Memorial Day 10K race this morning. Winning time for Dad and Liam: 33:51. Rumor has it Liam slept most the way, content to let Dad do all the work. Congratulations also go out to our visiting racing buddy, and two time former winner, Rudy Rocha for finishing second in the 10K, just three weeks back from a knee injury.

Dusty Lopez won the 5K in 15:31, followed closely by Mike Aitken.

Congratulations to everyone who ran this morning, thanks for coming out and making this a great 35th race!

U City 35th Annual Memorial Day Run!

Time again for one of St. Louis' favorite runs! The University City Memorial Day Run, celebrating it's 35th year, is Monday, May 25, 2009. Find all the information needed to register here. There are two distances offered, both a 5 and a 10K. A great way to welcome the unofficial start of the summer running season.

Ghisallo Running/U City 10 Mile RACE RESULTS

Thanks to all who braved some challenging weather to participate in the First Annual U City 10 Mile race. And many, many thanks to our volunteers!!! We can't do this without your efforts. Ronald McDonald did not let a little snow and cold interfere with his Master of Ceremonies duties. And thanks to Centennial Commons for providing such a great location to host our race.

Also Newton athlete Josh Cox broke the American record by over four minutes on Sunday, for the 50 kilometer distance. Running 2:20.32 for the marathon distance, despite six episodes of stomach distress and two bathroom stops, Cox was ninth place at the marathon distance at PF Changs' RNR Arizona, when he headed to a local track for five more miles on the track. Finishing the last lap in 71 seconds, Cox broke a seven year old US record, set in Palo Alto,CA of 2:51.48 by Alex Tilson. Josh's time was 2:47:17.

Go! St.Louis Half-marathon Training Program First Meeting This Thursday, Jan. 8th!

Our training program will provide you with all the tools you need to run the Go! St. Louis Half-Marathon , whether you're tackling this distance for the first time or attempting to set a PR.
